Stumbling into Infinity- The revolution begins.

How will the Art of Living reach out  to the vast masses of people all over the globe? This question has been lingering in out minds for sometime now. Though we all know eventually it will happen but Guruji has said that there will be a wave of spirituality that will sweep through the whole world. How the sudden wave will come and in what form?

Stumbling into Infinity, the book will play a vital role in it, I think. No other Art of Living book , in published history has garnered so much Attention as this one and its important because a large number of people like to be docile, sitting at home and reading rather than doing something adventurous ( like Yes+). This is specially true about the West. This book does not only connect deeply with all the Art of Living people but also gives a glimpse of what goes on inside with a Realised Master. People who have not done the Art of Living will also relate and appreciate it. In short it will open a window of hope for them and basically inspire them enough to do the course.

Written by Mike, who has a vast experience as any , with the organisation and Guruji, the book is like a diary of events starting from the  early 80’s . I don’t want to go into the details as I had written a Review of the book in My Blog , right in August , when the book was not released in India yet.

As far as I know , the book garnered rank #85 in the Best Seller’s list in Amazon and rank #1 in Spirituality category. It means a big deal.

Have you read the book , what are your thoughts, speak your experiences in the comments here !

Art of Living to attempt breaking Guinness record in cooking

The Art of Living Foundation (ALF), founded by spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Maharaj, would be attempting to break Guinness Book world record by cooking highest number of vegetarian food items by an organisation using community kitchens on November 2.

“We at the ALF believe just like prayer helps us connect spiritually with the Supreme being, food is also one of the mediums to connect to God,” Rishi Nityapragya of the foundation told reporters.

“Devotees of Guruji (Sri Sri Ravi Shankar) would be attempting to prepare 5000 vegetarian food items, totalling around five tonnes, using over 250 community kitchens here on November 2,” Nityapragya said.

“The present Guinness record is of 4600 food items, and we would be attempting to break it in the presence of Guruji himself who will bless the people during the event which we call Annan Brahm or annakoot,” he added.

The unique thing about this big kitchen would be that all the ingredients used for cooking shall be organic, chemical free and the preparation would be based of ayurvedic principles.

As many as 1.25 lakh people from across the country are expected to participate in the event.

These people are not professional, but common persons from all walks of life, Nityapragya said.

Nityapragya further said devotees would prepare specialities according to their regional affiliation.

The food items prepared would be distributed by Guruji as Prashad to nearly 25 thousand underprivileged children in the city, he added.

Nityapragya said that this was an occasion after nearly six years that Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was visiting Gujarat and would be staying for nearly a week.

During his visit to the state, he would also be conducting puja in Rajkot and Vadodara, besides conducting a mega course on Art of Living.

Nityapragya said that according to Guruji, India has seven unique things whose diversity and richness were unparallelled in the world which include music, dance, food, tourism, attire, Yoga and ayurveda.

Glued to a Historian !

Ever since I came across this fantastic study of Indian history, http://www.bharathgyan.com/ , I was waiting to meet Dr. D. K. Hari. And today I had a privilege to attend his talk arranged by Hindi Samiti and YES!+ Team at IISc !

He and his team have studied and compiled literature and evidences on 64 topics ranging from ancient civilization, art and science to Ganga- a man made river and Vimana shastra. And upon the request of organizers he spoke on the debated topic of historicity of Rama.I was pleased to see the new use of Astronomical information – for dating the events in the history. The Huge variety of combinations of positions of planets and stars gives rise to uniqueness in the way they are placed in the sky, as observed from a particular location. Such an observation is unlikely to repeat to its fullest agreement.

Further question answer session was even more interesting. I got to know that Indian Government led by Jawaharlal Nehru had appointed a committee for setting up a calender  that would be scientifically correct, under the leadership of great Indian Astrophysicist Meghnath Saha. He and his team studied 7300 different dating systems in India alone, and came up with a universal way of keeping track of time, which involved a correction for “precession of equinoxes”, a minute but important correction of one day in 72 years, which is also noted in the ancient scriptures.

He clearly segregated the scriptures between puranas- moral stories, and Itihasa-the history. Mahabharata and Ramayana are Itihasa. Even many versions of Ramayana are not itihasa, they are Kavya- poetic, glorified versions. So we need to refer to original scripts to get the correct historical details.

Further came the only historical monument of the time of Rama that is still present – the Rama Setu between India and Srilanka. He presented the details about the construction, its location and many more facts about the Setu, including the families that preserved it for centuries, keeping it a walking bridge till CE 1400. After the Tsunami in 15th century, the bridge got depilated and could not be used for further travel. He presented the travelogues of historicians from all over the world who used that bridge till then.

He was so polite and humble in his presentations and findings, and quoted Gautam Budhha that none of his presentations should be taken as conclusive and invited the youth to come and verify and explore further details.

A Scientist from Germany is going to come to Ashram tomorrow (friday) and present his studies on Dark Matter, Dark Energy. We would have a great glimpse of a western scientific investigation coinciding with ancient Indian observations and studies.

Looking forward for more such illuminating events! Cheers to IISc team…!

My country is My Valentine!!

Raining inspirational words
DHNS
It was organised by WAYE, the youth wing of Art of Living and saw a jam-packed audience of youngsters, getting together to spark the spirit of nationalism.

This year we will not ask anything from our nation, but will contribute our utmost instead,” said Rashmin, a senior international faculty of Art of Living while inaugurating the programme, My Country, My Valentine, that began on a serious note but ended with oodles of rollicking fun, laughter and music.

It was organised by World Alliance Of Youth Empowerment (WAYE), the youth wing of Art of Living and saw a jam-packed audience of youngsters, getting together to spark the spirit of nationalism. The session was divided in three parts: India’s Glory of the Past, Pains of the Present and Dreams of the Future.

“For thousands of years, the nation has been renowned for its spirituality. Today, the West is taking yoga and ayurveda from India, and India has taken fast-food and pop music. I don’t think it’s a fair exchange,”  he said further.

Amidst the audience’s oohs and aahs, startling facts were revealed in a presentation of ancient vedic scriptures that depicted  India’s advancement in science and technology thousands of years ago, like a shloka explaining Pythagoras Theorem 2,000 years ago before Pythagoras; the value of pi; and the Principle of Gravity. An ancient texts of Vimana shastra explained the principles of an aeroplane more than 7,000 years ago.

Going on to the second part of the evening, Rashmin spoke about some of the present facts about politics. “Our
country gave Rs 50 crore to Harvard and Cambridge universities, when our own educational infrastructure is in doldrums.’’

The final part of the evening was about ‘How we can make a difference?’ “We need to start voting, and then empower ourself spiritually. Anger and violence belong to a weak mind, crying for help, so unless we learn to be calm and centred, we cannot stand up and make a difference to our society and to ourselves,” concluded Rashmin.

The students abuzz with patriotic fervour, rocked to satsang.

The evening ended with a short meditation, and a pledge by the audience to help spread spiritual awareness.
